There are as many as 2000 species of snakes on earth and it is estimated that they lived around 80 million years ago. Snakes can be found in almost every part of the planet. There are tremendous numbers of them in deserts of Africa and Asia, in Japan. America is also famous for great diversity of venomous snakes found in Florida, Colorado, California, Massachusetts etc.
As we can see, the geography of snakes' habitat is too large and extensive to be confined to a particular district. Here we can point out a few areas and species inhabiting them. For those who take particular interest in snakes' habitats, it can be recommended to study the wildlife in Florida and California, which are renowned for their unbelievable profusion of reptiles and other animals. In Florida, one can meet scores of harmless snakes viewed as pet snakes, but this region is also famous for dangerous rattlesnakes, such as the Copperhead, Cottonmouth, Canebrake Rattlesnake, Diamondback rattlesnake and so forth.
Southern New Jersey with its elevated pine-oak forests and sandy soil has proven attractive for Northern Pine Snake. It can be easily found in Lakewood and Lakehurst where there is an abundance of sandy patches, which is extremely convenient for snakes to hide and nest. Thus, in order to be more complete in talking about the habitat of snakes, one has to choose a certain region.
